That's right, birders, 2022.
Los Angeles Christmas Bird Count will be Sunday, Jan. 2nd.
Dan Cooper is coordinating for the Los Angeles Count Circle.
Circle boundary is here: https://tinyurl.com/266dae3u
*Note: this count is not held on Christmas, is centered on Pico/Robertson, and large areas of Los Angeles, particularly in the SF Valley and Eastside, are outside the circle. No fee for the count, and no formal sign-up is necessary (other than contacting Dan).
Please email Dan at lathrotriccus@gmail.com to let him know if you'll be returning to do your regular area, or if you'd like to be re-assigned a new area (or if you're new to all this and want to participate as a new counter).
Dan is organizing a few "public" sites for walk-ins, and for those who'd rather count in a larger group, like Del Rey Lagoon; contact him for details.
Sadly, we lost three long-time counters this year, so we might need help in areas they've counted in the past (Santa Monica, Baldwin Hills Overlook, Marina del Rey).
eBird caveat: Each year, we run into people birding the count circle on count day who aren't aware of the CBC. Often they'll enter their sightings (and increasingly, photos) into eBird. Dan try to glean sightings from eBird and follow-up with them post-count, but it's always helpful to let Dan know if you'll just be "eBirding" the count circle that day.
