Defensible Space, Zone Zero, and the New Fire Hazard Severity Zones - Implications for California's Urban Forests and Habitats

Travis Longcore

The State of California has both introduced new maps of fire hazard and is developing a stringent new regulation that would require removal of nearly all vegetation from within five feet of structures in area designated on these maps. In this public presentation, Dr. Travis Longcore will explain these policies, how they would affect neighborhood habitats, and how to become engaged in the public process to advocate for policies with strong scientific support to increase fire safety while protecting trees and habitats. Dr. Longcore is Past President of Los Angeles Audubon Society, Science Director of The Urban Wildlands Group, and an Adjunct Professor at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.

The meeting will be on Zoom at this link.
