This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 18.

A continuing HOODED MERGANSER was on the small lagoon at Topanga Beach on September 11.

WHITE-WINGED DOVES were in Torrance on September 11 and at the Dominguez Gap Wetlands in Long Beach on September 14.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek was reported through September 17.  It has usually been near the UCLA boat ramp area (upstream from Pacific Ave.), but it can range farther up and down stream.

A RED KNOT was seen on the beach just south of the Ballona Creek south jetty on September 16.

One NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued below the Willow Street crossing along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach through September 14.

Despite the recent fire, another NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued on the island at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve through September 18.

Up to two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through September 17.

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was along the east fence line at Rancho Sierra Golf Course in the east Antelope Valley from September 14-16.  Also present here was an AMERICAN REDSTART on September 11.  The golf course is private property, but the perimeter may be birded after asking permission at the club house.

A PURPLE MARTIN was along the Los Angeles River below the 134 Freeway crossing in Glendale on September 14.

A LARK BUNTING was near the west edge of the lagoon near the end of the pathway at Malibu Lagoon on September 18.

BLACK-THROATED SPARROWS were at Malibu Lagoon from September 13-15 near the end of the pathway close to the beach and at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on September 15.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach from September 11-13.  Other CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were at Brookside Park in Pasadena on September 14 and at Los Angeles State Historical Park on September 16.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was at the Trancas Canyon creek mouth on September 12.

An AMERICAN REDSTART was at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on September 11.

A PALM WARBLER was at the AES Redondo Beach wetland area on September 14.

A PAINTED REDSTART was on the UCLA campus in Westwood on September 14 north of the Geology Building.

At least one SUMMER TANAGER was accounted for at Pearblossom Park in the south Antelope Valley through September 14.
