Los Angeles Christmas Bird Count Summary

The Los Angeles Christmas Bird Count was held on Jan. 2, 2026, the original date (Jan. 4) having been moved due to the predicted all-day rain. Most of our regular counters were able to switch to the new date; interestingly, only a few new participants made it out on the 2nd (but a big thanks to those who did!).

Dancing Chicken Weekend 2026, April 24-27, 2026

Mary Freeman will be leading her 34th trip to watch the Greater Sage Grouse performing their ritual dance in Long Valley. We will have a Sage Grouse biologist present to tell us about the biology of these wonderful birds, on Friday evening. We will search for many of the eastern Sierra Nevada specialty birds the whole weekend including Rosy Finch, Juniper Titmouse, Pinyon Jay, Sooty Grouse and more.

Reserve your accommodations as soon as possible as this is the opening weekend for fishing. Mail separate per person checks at $65 per person, payable to Los Angeles Audubon Society, mailed to: Los Angeles Audubon Society, P.O. Box 411301, Los Angeles CA 90041-8301. Net profits are an LAAS fundraiser.
