This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 6, 2025.

The HOODED MERGANSER at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park continued through September 1.

A COMMON GROUND DOVE was at Knollwood Country Club in Granada Hills on August 31.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE continued along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach through September 1.  It was last seen near the Willow Street crossing.  Nearby a GREATER ROADRUNNER continued east of the river by 31st Street.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek was reported through September 1.  Check for it with the flock of Black-bellied Plovers along the creek or on the salt pan.  This area is just upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge.

Two STILT SANDPIPERS continued at the Willow Street crossing on the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach through August 29 

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was along Ballona Creek between the Centinela and Inglewood crossings on September 1.

A juvenile SABINE’S GULL was at the Piute Ponds (on Thoreau Pond) on Edwards AFB on September 6.

Two RED-BILLED TROPICBIRDS were south of San Clemente Island on August 31.

An AMERICAN BITTERN was at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh from September 1-6.  No parking is allowed on Jefferson, but nearby lots allow access.

Another AMERICAN BITTERN was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on on September 1.

WESTERN CATTLE EGRETS were at Malibu Lagoon on August 25 and at Apollo Park in Lancaster (4 birds) on August 29.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia through August 31 as did a VIRGINIA’S WARBLER through September 3.  Both were on the peninsula west of the parking area.

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB from September 1-2.

A LUCY’S WARBLER was at Stephen Sorensen Park in Lake Los Angeles on August 30 and a VIRGINIA’S WARBLER was there on September 2.
