This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for December 3.

 A LONG-TAILED DUCK continued off Dockweiler State Beach and El Segundo Beach in El Segundo through November 27.

 A SANDHILL CRANE was observed flying over Claremont on December 2.

 The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through November 30. It is most often seen near the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge, but it moves around the area.

 Up to ten MOUNTAIN PLOVERS continued in the Antelope Valley through November 29 at the A&G Sod Farm. The location is at 50th Street East and Avenue N. This is private property; please bird from the road only.

 The SOLITARY SANDPIPER on the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin below the Burbank Blvd. crossing continued through November 27.

 Another SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at the southeast edge of the main lake at Hansen Dam on November 27.

 The LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (an apparent second cycle bird) continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through December 2.

 A HARRIS’S HAWK by So-Fi Stadium in Inglewood may have been and escape or part of a recent apparent invasion of naturally occurring birds.

 Up to two ZONE-TAILED HAWKS were in Monrovia through December 2 in the general area around Grand Ave. Park.

 A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) through December 2.

 SHORT-EARED OWLS were at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on November 27 and in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach on November 29.

 An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER continued at Willow Springs Park in Long Beach through November 27.

 TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continued along the Los Angeles River north of the Pacific Coast Highway through November 30, Entradero Park in Torrance through November 28 and at El Dorado Park in Long Beach (east of the pond) from November 29-December 2.

 The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through December 2. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern park of the park down into the river channel.

 A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through November 28 on the golf course adjacent the end of the footbridge.  Another was at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on November 27 about half way along the main pathway.

 A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW and a DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO were in Chavez Ravine at Elysian Park on November 26.

 The DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued in the Sailboat Cove area at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through November 26.

 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continued at Crescenta Valley Park in LA Crescenta through November 26, in Glendora through November 27 and in Malibu on November 30.

 The GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE (inside Monte Verde Park) and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through December 1.

 Another GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was in Signal Hill on December 2.

 A SCOTT’S ORIOLE continued at Crystalaire in the south Antelope Valley through November 27.

 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh in Torrance November 30, at Alondra Park Reservoir in pines northwest of the lake on November 29, and at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through December 2 in the willow patch east of the south pond area.

 NASHVILLE WARBLERS were at Maywood Riverfront Park on November 27, at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach from November 28-December 1 and at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Estates on December 2.

 An AMERICAN REDSTART continued along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 5 Freeway through November 2. The bird was in trees in the river channel near the middle of the riparian strip.

 A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at Wardlow Park in Long Beach from November 27-December 1 on the east side of the park south of the basketball court. A male SUMMER TANAGER continued at the park through December 1. Also at the park on the west side was a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER from November 28-December 1.

 A PALM WARBLER was at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Estates on December 2 by the intersection of Alpine and Tram Road.

 The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through December 2. It stays in the lone oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

 Two SUMMER TANAGERS (a male and female) were at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on November 28 around the central lawn area.

 A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was at the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library in Los Angeles on November 29.
