This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for October 29.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at Alta Vicente Reserve on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on October 29.

A BLACK SWIFT was reported near the mouth of Little Santa Anita Canyon in Sierra Madre on October 27.

A RUFF continued along the lower Los Angeles River at Willow Street through October 29.

Up to two STILT SANDPIPERS continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for entry) through October 26.

A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was below the Willow Street crossing of the Los Angeles River in Long Beach on October 26 and an immature LITTLE BLUE HERON continued there through October 27.

A juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was on the breakwater at the Ballona Creek mouth through October 23 and up to two were at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through October 26.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was again over Monrovia in the general vicinity of Grand Ave. Park on October 23 and 24.

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were in Area 3 (near the pond) of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through October 22, along the lower Los Angeles River below Willow Street through October 26, at Entradero Park in Torrance through October 26 and along the Los Angeles River north of Elysian Park (“Frogtown”) on October 28.

A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was seen along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach (south of Willow Street) from October 24-29.

A GRAY CATBIRD was reported in Calabasas along Lost Hills Road north of Meadow Creek Lane on October 28.

A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW continued at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through October 26 on the golf course.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale through October 24.  It has been on both the east and west side of Victory.

Another CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was near tower 35 at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on October 22.  Also present here were a continuing GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE seen through October 24 and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER reported through October 22.  A PALM WARBLER was on the river side of the trail on October 24.

A DARK-EYED "GRAY-HEADED" JUNCO continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (northeast shore of the lake under the oaks) through October 28.  Another was at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena (by the sports field and parking lot) through October 22.

Two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were on San Clemente Island (no public access) on October 25.  Another was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park (100 yards north of the playground area) on October 27.

A BLACK-AND WHITE WARBLER was at Silver Lake Reservoir in the Meadow area on October 22.  Other BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through October 24, at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through October 28 and at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach on October October 25.

A LUCY'S WARLBLER was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on October 24 on the west side of the channel between the two lakes.

An AMERICAN REDSTART was along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 5 Freeway on October 28.  The bird was in trees in the river channel.

A MAGNOLIA WARBLER continued at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale (in oaks opposite 1621 Rancho Ave.) through October 27.  

A PALM WARBLER was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park (south of the playground area on the west side of the lake) from October 24-26.

The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through October 26.  It stays in the lone oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

A SUMMER TANAGER continued at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles through October 24 (at the west end of the central lawn area). 

An INDIGO BUNTING was along Woodley Creek in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys through October 23.  Also in this area was a PAINTED BUNTING through October 27.  A SWAMP SPARROW continued here (near the open concrete area in the creek bed) through October 28.
