This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for November 26.

 

A “EURASIAN” GREEN-WINGED TEAL (presumably a returning bird) was along the San Gabriel River on November 22 between Whittier and Washington Blvd.

 

A LONG-TAILED DUCK and two BLACK SCOTERS were off Dockweiler State Beach and El Segundo Beach in El Segundo through November 25.  Two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were there on November 22.

 

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through November 25. It is most often seen near the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge, but it moves around the area.

 

Up to fourteen MOUNTAIN PLOVERS were in the Antelope Valley through November 23 at the A&G Sod Farm. The location is at 50th Street East and Avenue N. This is private property; please bird from the road only.

 

The SOLITARY SANDPIPER on the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin below the Burbank Blvd. crossing continued through November 24.

 

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (apparent second cycle bird) was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas from November 22-25.

 

A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was at Westlake Lake in Westlake Village on November 22.

 

The HARRIS’S HAWK at Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains was present through November 19.  Another HARRIS’S HAWK was reported over Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on November 23.

 

ZONE-TAILED HAWKS continued, with one at and around Grand Ave. Park in Monrovia through November 21 and one in north Glendora through November 26.

 

A SHORT-EARED OWL was at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) on November 19.  A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was north of the viewing platform on November 19, a SWAMP SPARROW was present from November 19-20 and a HARRIS’S SPARROW continued through November 22 at the “coot chute”.  A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was here from November 20-22.

 

Another SHORT-EARED OWL was at the Toyon Landfill in Griffith Park on November 25. 

 

A ”BLACK” MERLIN was at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale on November 24.

 

An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was at Willow Springs Park in Long Beach on November 22.

 

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continued along the Los Angeles River north of the Pacific Coast Highway through November 23, at Golden Shore Marine Reserve in Long Beach through November 22, and at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach and Entradero Park in Torrance through November 25.  Two TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were at Marina Vista Park in Long Beach on November 20.

 

A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was at Valley Park in Burbank on November 21.  Another was at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale on November 23 north of the restrooms.

 

The EASTERN PHOEBE at Echo Park was present through November 19 by the north end east of the playground area and lake viewing platform.

 

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through November 25. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern park of the park down into the river channel.

 

The japonicus type AMERICAN PIPIT continued at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale through November 25.

 

The DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued in the Sailboat Cove area at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through November 24.

 

Another DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO was on Santa Catalina Island on November 20.

 

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were on Santa Catalina Island on November 20 and at Crescenta Valley Park in La Crescenta on November 25.

 

A SWAMP SPARROW was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on November 26.  This bird was on the west side of the larger south basin a short distance below the berm separating the main north and south basins.

 

The GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE (inside Monte Verde Park) and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through November 20.

 

A SCOTT’S ORIOLE was at Crystalaire in the south Antelope Valley on November 23.

 

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER (possibly a continuing bird) was along the Los Angeles River below Los Feliz Blvd. on November 21.  Other BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through November 22 and at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through November 23.

 

A NASHVILLE WARBLER was at Legg Lake in South El Monte on November 24.

 

An AMERICAN REDSTART continued along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 5 Freeway through November 24. The bird was in trees in the river channel near the middle of the riparian strip.

 

The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through November 25. It stays in the lone oak tree in the Pinecrest section.
