This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 25.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek was reported through September 21.  It has usually been near the UCLA boat ramp area (upstream from Pacific Ave.), but it can range farther up and down the channel.

Four STILT SANDPIPERS were found along the Los Angeles River upstream from the Slauson Ave. crossing in Vernon on September 19.  They were reported there through September 24.

A SABINE'S GULL was on Duckbill Lake at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on September 20.  A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was in a cottonwood near the gazebo on September 18.  As always, a permit is required to enter this area.

A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was a Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on September 19.

Two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through September 25.

A SULPHUR-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was found in Long Beach on September 23 and seen through September 24.  The bird has been near the intersection of 15th Street and Newport Ave. in Long Beach.  It has favored a Chinese Elm in the yard at 1438 Newport.

A PURPLE MARTIN was at Avalon on Santa Catalina Island on September 20.

A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance from September 19-25.  A BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER was in the same area from September 19-23   Both were in sycamores along the street at the Nature Center parking lot.  A male AMERICAN REDSTART was at Madrona on September 22 in the "Wilson's Alley" are of the southwest willows.

A CANADA WARBLER was on the 1600 block of Nolden Street in Highland Park on September 21.  It has not been reported since.  

Two SUMMER TANAGERS continued at Pearblossom Park in the south Antelope Valley through September 21.  Other SUMMER TANAGERS were in Altadena on September 18, in Atwater Village on September 23, at Heartwell Park in Long Beach on September 25 and at O'Melveny Park in Granda Hills on September 20.

A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on September 25.  It was in trees along the river adjacent to the Los Coyotes entrance, near the middle of the park.

An INDIGO BUNTING- possibly a continuing bird- was by the Altadena Drain at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena on September 20.
