This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for May 7.

A BRANT continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) through May 6.

Two GREATER SCAUP were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on May 2.

A late HOODED MERGANSER was at Franklin Canyon on April 30.

Very rare inland was a BLACK TURNSTONE at the Piute Ponds from Paril 30-May 1.

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was along the Los Angeles River between Willow Street and the Del Amo crossing on April 30.

NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS included up to four continued at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through May 6.  They are generally seen on the buoys near the north short of the lake.  

other NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through May 5,and at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on May 2.  One was along the Los Angeles River south of Willow Street on May 2.

A BROWN PELICAN was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas from May 2-4.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was occupying a nest at Alamitos Bay on April 30.  Another continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through May 1.

Up to five YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON were seen at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach through May 2.

A late NORTHERN HARRIER was at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on May 1.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued along the Ballona Creek bike path upstream from Centinela through May 3.

PURPLE MARTINS were in Redondo Beach on May 2, in Indian Springs on May 3 and at the Piute Ponds (2 birds) on May 3.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at Victory Park in Pasadena through May 6.  Another was at Cheviot Hills Park through April 30 and one was at the Piute Ponds on May 3.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued in Rolling Hills through May 4.

A SUMMER TANAGER continued at Pearblossom Park in the south Antelope Valley through May 6.

Another SUMMER TANAGER was at Grand Avenue Park in Monrovia on May 6 and one was in Marina del Rey on May 7.
