This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for March 15, 2024.

At least two LESSER NIGHTHAWKS continued at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale through March 9.

A BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD continued at a residence in Glendora through March 8.

At least one LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued along the Los Angeles River between Downey Road and Soto Street in Vernon through March 13.

A BROWN BOOBY was in Santa Monica Bay (off Marina Del Rey) on March 7.

A WESTERN CATTLE EGRET was at Quail Lake near Gorman on March 13.

Two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach through March 10 and three more continued at Alamitos Bay through March 12.  At least two continued at Ballona Lagoon through March 12.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in north Monrovia through March 13.

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD continued in Griffith Park through March 14.  Google Earth coordinates are approximately 34.14079, -118.28856, although the bird moves around this area.

At Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena, the following birds continued.  Two CASSIN’S VIREOS (southwest area) through March 13, a TENNESSEE WARBLER (at the Berkshire Creek wooden bridge) through March 13, a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER through March 9 (west side, south of the restrooms), a DUSKY FLYCATCHER through March 12 (north of the Berkshire Creek bridge) and a DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO through March 10 (at and around the athletic field on the lower west side of the basin.

Two AMERICAN DIPPERS continued along the Barrett-Stoddard Truck Trail along the middle fork of the San Gabriel River below Mt. Baldy Village through March 9.

The WHITE WAGTAIL continued along the Los Angeles River through March 14.  It recently moved well upstream of the previous location (Riverside Drive).  It is now in the area of Buena Vista Park and some distance upstream from the park.

A LARK BUNTING continued at Sheldon Arleta Park in Sun Valley (south and east of the baseball diamond) through March 14.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS continued at a residence in Silver Lake through March 14, at Rio de Los Angeles Park through March 9 and at El Dorado Park in Long Beach (by the Golden Grove parking lot) through March 10.

A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued in the Sailboat Cove area of Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through March 11.  Another was at the Signal Hills North Side Trails from March 9-14.

SWAMP SPARROWS were at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena on March 9 and near the Valyermo Post Office on March 13.

An ORCHARD ORIOLE continued at Banning Park in Wilmington through March 13 usually in and around the fenced museum grounds.  Another ORCHARD ORIOLE continued at La Mirada Community Park in La Mirada through March 12.

A RUSTY BLACKBIRD continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through March 10.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach through March 8 (east of the botanical garden) and another was at Ralph Dills Park in Paramount on March 8.

An AMERICAN REDSTART continued at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora through March 10.

The CAPE MAY WARBLER along the west side of Alhambra Park (in front of 507 Palm Street) was reported through March 14.

A NORTHERN PARULA was in Coral Trees inside the entrance to the South Coast Botanic Garden from March 12-13.

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at Victory Park in Pasadena (by the playground) from March 13-14.

Two PALM WARBLERS continued at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through March 9 (one on each side of the larger north basin).

A BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER was at Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel through March 14 and a DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER was here through March 13.  Both were near the southeast corner of the park.

A PAINTED REDSTART continued at San Dimas Canyon Park through March 9 in the southwest corner south of the east restrooms.

A HEPATIC TANAGER continued at Banning Park in Wilmington through March 13 around the museum grounds.
