This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for December 5, 2025. 

A EURASIAN WIGEON continued at Thompson Reservoir on Santa Catalina Island through November 25. 

One to two SURF SCOTERS continued at Quail Lake through November 30. 

A continuing PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was near the Ballona Creek mouth in Playa del Rey through December 1.  Check for it upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge and on the Salt Pan. 

A MOUNTAIN PLOVER was in the Antelope Valley on November 27 at 110th Street East and Ave. I. 

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through November 22.  An AMERICAN BITTERN was here (along the San Gabriel River) through November 22 and a WESTERN CATTLE-EGRET was present through November 28. 

Other LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were along the Los Angeles River in Vernon at 26th Street from November 28-30 and also between the Slauson and Atlantic crossings in Maywood on December 4. 

A MANX SHEARWATER was in the West San Pedro Channel (off the Palos Verdes Peninsula) on December 2. 

A SWAINSON’S HAWK was seen in Griffith Park on November 27. 

A SHORT-EARED OWL was in the Antelope Valley (West Ave. E east of Sierra Highway) on November 22. 

A WILLIAMSON’S SAPSUCKER continued in Studio City through November 23. 

The DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER at Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel was reported through November 30.  It typically frequents the southeast area of the park. 

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through November 29 (often on the east side, adjacent Mines Ave). 

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD in Griffith Park continued through December 4 near the Old Merry-Go-Round area and along Mineral Wells Trail adjacent to the golf course. 

A GREATER PEWEE was in Monrovia Canyon from November 27- December 4.  Google Maps 34.1774, -117.9910. 

A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on November 22 (north of Carson Street).  Another was at El Nido Park from November 24-December 2 and one was near the Chilao Visitor’s Center in the San Gabriel Mountains on November 24. 

A WESTERN FLYCATCHER was at Creek Park in La Mirada on December 1. 

An EASTERN PHOEBE continued near the spillway at Lake Lindero in Agoura Hills through November 24. 

A CASSIN’S VIREO was at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on November 23.  This is private property but birders are welcome.  Please be respectful of the residents. 

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR and a THICK-BILLED LONGSPUR continued at the A&G Sod Fields in the Antelope Valley through November 23.  Both were seen south of Ave. N and west of 50th Street East. 

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW and an INDIGO BUNTING were in the northwest part of Pan Pacific Park in Los Angeles through December 3 and December 2, respectively.  A CASSIN’S VIREO was here on November 27. 

Another CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glenn on November 27. 

A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO was in Chavez Ravine at Elysian Park from November 21-28. 

A DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO was at Schabarum Regional Park in Rowland Heights on November 22. 

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island on November 23, at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through November 29 (south of Picnic Area #3) and along the lower Los Angeles River on December 3 (east side, south of 27th Street).  Two more were at Arroyo Park in South Pasadena on November 24 and one was at Descanso Gardens in La Canada on November 27. 

Six SAGEBRUSH SPARROWS were at Adobe Mountain in the east Antelope Valley on November 27, approximately here 34.7050, -117.6712.   

Another SAGEBRUSH SPARROW was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for entry) from November 28-December 1.  Continuing here through December 2 was a SWAMP SPARROW north of Ave. C and 100 yards east of the gazebo. 

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood (south of Monte Verde Park by the gazebo) through December 1.  A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was present here through November 29. 

Another GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach on December 1. 

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at Legg Lake in South El Monte on December 3. 

A HOODED ORIOLE continued at the Huntington Gardens in San Marino through December 3.  It is sometimes in the parking lot and at the north end of the Desert Garden. 

A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was at El Nido Park (northwest part) in Torrance through December 2. 

An OVENBIRD was along the lower Los Angeles River near Willow Street from December 2-4.  Google Maps 33.8064,-118.2043. 

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia from November 23-25 (west side willows between the north and south lake adjacent to the golf course).  A NORTHERN PARULA was here from November 23-24. 

A MACGILLIVRAY’S WARBLER was in Studio City on November 20. 

An AMERICAN REDSTART was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on November 27. 

The CAPE MAY WARBLER at Loyola Marymount University in Westchester continued through November 29 here- Google Maps 33.9688, -118.4168. 

A NORTHERN PARULA was in Rolling Hills Estates on November 26. 

Another NORTHERN PARULA was at Pt. Dume on November 26.  Google Maps 34.0155, -118.7983  

A BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER was at Whaley Park in Long Beach (south of Atherton along the fence line) through November 22. 

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was on the USC Campus from November 28-December 3.  Google Maps 34.0210, -118.2861. 

A PALM WARBLER continued at Belvedere Park in East Los Angeles through December 3. 

Another PALM WARBLER continued along the lower Los Angeles River south of the pipe bridge below Willow Street through December 2. 

The BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER continued at the William Andrews Clark Library in Los Angeles (restricted hours) through November 29. 

A PAINTED REDSTART was at Chavez Ravine in Elysian Park through December 3.  Google Maps 34.0844, -118.2460.  Another continued at San Dimas Canyon Park near the restrooms through November 30. 

Nine SUMMER TANAGERS were reported at various locations. 

A SCARLET TANAGER was at Lingberg Park in Culver City through December 1, with two (male and female) seen there on November 23.  Google Maps 34.001, -118.3991. 

BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS were in Griffith Park in the Merry-Go-Round area on November 23 and in Bel Air on December 1.
