This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for December 16, 2025. 

Up to three SURF SCOTERS continued at Quail Lake through December 16.  A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was a Quail Lake from December 8-16.

A MOUNTAIN PLOVER continued at the A&G Sod Farm in the Antelope Valley through December 13.  The location is south of Avenue N and east of 40th Street East.  A THICK-BILLED LONGSPUR was present here through December 7.

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued between the Atlantic and Slauson crossings in Maywood through December 14. 

Another LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on December 7.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was at Kiwanis Grand Ave. Park in Monrovia on December 14.

A WILLIAMSON’S SAPSUCKER continued at a residence in Studio City through December 6.

The DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER at Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel was reported through December 6.  It typically frequents the southeast area of the park. 

An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was at West Los Angeles College on December 6.

A GREATER PEWEE continued in Monrovia Canyon through December 16.  Google Maps 34.1774, -117.9910. 

Two THICK-BILLED KINGBIRDS continued in Griffith Park, with one along the Mineral Wells Trail reported through December 16.  Google Maps 34.1394, -118.2881.  A HEPATIC TANAGER was in the same area from December 14-16 and a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was present here on December 14.

The other THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD has been around the Old Merry-Go-Round area. 

A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was at El Nido Park in Torrance on December 10. 

An EASTERN PHOEBE continued at Lake Lindero in Agoura Hills through December 14.

Two CASSIN’S VIREOS were at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on December 7.

A GRAY CATBIRD was at the UCLA campus from December 12-16.  Google Maps 34.0741, -118.4550.

Another GRAY CATBIRD was on Santa Catalina Island (Avalon area- Wrigley Reservoir) on December 14.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at Victory Park in Pasadena on December 13.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at Pan Pacific Park through December 5.

A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO was at the Pepperdine University Ponds in Malibu on December 14.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were along the Los Angeles River north of Willow Street (east side) through December 16, at Santa Ynez Canyon Trail on December 5, at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through December 12, at Kenneth Hahn SRA through December 14 and at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through December 6.

A SWAMP SPARROW continued at the Piute Ponds along Ave. C about 100 yards east of the gazebo.  A letter of permission is required for entry.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood (south of Monte Verde Park by the gazebo) through December 16.  A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was present here also through December 14 and a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was here on December 10. 

Another GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through December 8 and one was in Santa Clarita from December 9-13.

A HOODED ORIOLE continued at the Huntington Gardens in San Marino through December 15 (often around the parking lot or at the north end of the Desert Garden).

An OVENBIRD continued along the lower Los Angeles River near Willow Street from December 16.  Google Maps 33.8064,-118.2043. 

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was on Santa Catalina Island from December 7-13.

A NASHVILLE WARBLER was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on December 14.

An AMERICAN REDSTART continued at the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk through December 13.  Google Maps 34.1565, -118.2892.

A NORTHERN PARULA was in Rolling Hills Estates through December 14. 

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was on the USC Campus through December 11.  Google Maps 34.0210, -118.2861. 

A PALM WARBLER continued along the lower Los Angeles River through December 11.  Google Maps 33.8005, -118.2046.

Another PALM WARBLER continued at Belvedere Park in East Los Angeles through December 16. 

A PINE WARBLER was in the Whittier Narrows area on December 7.  Google Maps 34.0474, -118.0661.

A BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER continued on Santa Catalina Island (Avalon area) through December 14.

The BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER at the William Andrews Clark Library in Los Angeles (restricted hours) continued through December 6. 

A PAINTED REDSTART was at Chavez Ravine in Elysian Park through December 15.  Google Maps 34.0844, -118.2460.  Another continued at San Dimas Canyon Park near the restrooms through December 10. 

A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at Clutter’s Park in El Segundo from December 14-16.
