This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for 28 October 2022.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek was reported through October 24. It is usually upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge.

Up to three FRANKLIN’S GULLS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on October 28.

NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were along the Los Angeles River in Glendale (Adjacent the Bette Davis Picnic Area) through October 28, at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on October 22, along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin on October 2 and at San Jose Creek in South El Monte on October 26

Up to three YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey through October 27.

ZONE-TAILED HAWKS were in Monrovia near Grand Ave. Park from October 23-35 and above Altadena on October 25.

NORTHERN “YELLOW-SHAFTED” FLICKERS were at the Ballona Wetlands on October 25 and along the lower Los Angeles River at Willow Street on October 28.

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through October 22 (on the south and east side of the main lake), and at Marine Stadium Park in Alamitos Bay on October 24,

An EASTERN PHOEBE was at Lake Lindero in Agoura Hills on October 21.
Five PINYON JAYS overflew Juniper Hills near the north slope of the San Gabriel Mountains on October 22.

The WOOD WARBLER found in Long Beach was present through October 24. It has most recently by the intersection of 27th Street and California Ave. and the Medical Center parking lot. Also in this area (Willow Springs Park / Sunnyside Cemetery) were a CLAY COLORED SPARROW on October 18, a SUMMER TANGER through October 26, a TENNESSEE WARBLER through October 25, one to two PALM WARBLERS through October 22, an EASTERN PHOEBE on October 23 and a TROPICAL KINGBIRD through October 27.

Four PACIFIC WRENS were along the south fork of Big Rock Creek on the north slope of the San Gabriel Mountains on October 23.

GRAY CATBIRDS were on San Clemente Island on October 23 and at North Duckbill Lake at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on October 27.

A CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was in Griffith Park on October 23.

CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were near Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on October 23 and at Silverlake Reservoir (south end of the meadow area along Silverlake Blvd.) on from October 26-27.

A FIELD SPARROW was at the Piute Ponds (northeast Duckbill Lake) on October 27.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) from October 21-28, on San Clemente Island from October 22-24, in Silverlake on October 21, in Malibu on October 24 and at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on October 26.

SWAMP SPARROWS were at the Piute Ponds (one to two birds) from October 21-27 and at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia (on the west side between the two lakes) on October 26.

GREEN-TAILED TOWHEES were at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail through October 23 and at the Kenneth Hahn SRA (west edge of the Japanese Garden) on October 26.

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas from October 21-28, at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach on October 21, at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on October 22, at the north end of the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on October 26, at Hansen Dam in Lake View Terrace (by the dam outflow channel) on October 27 and at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on October 27.

TENNESSEE WARBLERS were in the Avalon area on Santa Catalina Island from October 21-24, at Neff Park in La Mirada on October 24, at Jackson Lake near Big Pines on October 24, at Chavez Ravine in Elysian Park on October 24, on San Clemente Island on October 24 and at the Long Beach Medical Center from October 22-25.

A CAPE MAY WARBLER was in Pasadena (by the corner of Pine Street and Diamond Ave.) on October 24.

A CERULEAN WARBLER was on Santa Catalina Island (Avalon area) on October 28.

MAGNOLIA WARBLERS were on San Clemente Island on October 21 and on Santa Catalina Island (Avalon area) on October 28.

A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was at the Rolling Hills Landfill Loop on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on October 28.

BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERS were at Wardlow Park in Long Beach through October 23 (by the Rec. building and playground) and on San Clemente Island on October 18.

CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through October 21, at Will Rogers Mini Park in Long Beach through October 23 and at Skytower Park in Lancaster on October 22.

A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER continued at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach (by the ball field on the north side of the pond) through October 28.

A PALM WARBLER was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on October 28.

SUMMER TANAGERS were San Clemente Island on October 22, at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on October 23 and in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach on October 22.

A SCARLET TANAGER was on San Clemente Island on October 22.
