This is the Los Angeles RBA for August 8, 2026.
A HOODED MERGANSER was at La Mirada Community Park on the golf course pond from August 5-7.
Up to six BLACK SWIFTS were seen above Claremont Wilderness Park and along Cobal Canyon Motorway through August 8. Late afternoon and early evening is the time to look for these birds.
A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was along the lower Los Angeles River above Willow Street in Long Beach from August 1-8, with two present on August 4.
Another SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for access) on August 7.
A WILSON’S SNIPE was at Piute Ponds on August 5.
Two MASKED BOOBIES were reported between Santa Catalina Island and San Clemente Island on August 3.
A NORTHERN HARRIER was at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on August 1.
Up to six BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHERS (including juveniles) continued below the Little Rock-Palmdale Dam through August 7. One viewing location is at Google maps 34.4886,-118.0250. There is no vehicle access and you will need to walk the road from the locked gate to this location. Be aware of the adjacent restricted access and construction areas. Avoid entering the riparian habitat and the area near the dam itself.
A LUCY’S WARBLER was along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach below Willow Street on August 1.
A SUMMER TANAGER was at Monrovia Canyon Park through August 7 around the Nature Center parking lot.
Another SUMMER TANAGER was along the San Gabriel River’s West Fork off Highway 39 through August 1.
